Performer 1

Sol de Espana

The Spanish Club Folk Dancers are an exciting multi-faceted group of talented and dedicated performers. They focus mainly on representing various regions of Spain. A universal favorite is the fiery flamenco style that makes southern Spain famous. Their presentation is bold and alive with castanets and brilliantly coloured skirts and shawls. The Spanish Club Folk Dancers have performed for many occasions at a variety of venues including Spainís Folk Festival in 1994. They appear as a regular feature at Folkloramaís Spanish Pavilion - Pabellon de Espana. They have appeared on local television in support of community projects, and have had the honour of representing Winnipeg and Manitoba on tourism promotions. The Spanish Club Folk Dancers provide brilliant and exciting performances that portray the glamorous culture and brilliance of Spain!

  Performer 2

Fubuki Daiko

Fubuki Daiko reinvents traditional Japanese drumming with their eclectic and energetic performances that are part martial arts athleticism, part meditation, and all rhythm. For over eighteen years, they have performed at festivals, concert halls, and schools across North America. Collaborations with a wide range of groups including the Winnipeg Singers, Moses Mayes Family Funk Band, the Northern Plains Ballet, and Ron Paley’s Big Band, have continued to fuel their pursuit of excellence and innovation in this ancient art form. The core members of the group each have over 20 years of taiko experience and received their formative training from the founder of North American Taiko, Grandmaster Seiichi Tanaka. After performing at Carnegie Hall with the San Francisco Taiko Dojo and leaving with Tanaka’s blessing, they relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba where they expanded into the current professional touring ensemble. The group’s self-titled CD received a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Instrumental Recording.

  Performer 3

Victor Lopez & Son Urbano

The explosive sound of Víctor López & Son Urbano takes its cue from Cuban timba music. Think Cuban son, US pop, funk, R&B and jazz combined into a full-out no-holds-barred dance tune. Offering a mix of Spanish and English originals and pop covers with the timba style, Víctor López & Son Urbano brings the newest flavour of Latin to Canadian stages.
